His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed that the current regional circumstances require the utmost restraint, during a multilateral meeting held Tuesday at the invitation of US President Donald Trump and attended by heads of delegations from Arab and Muslim countries.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the King affirmed Jordan’s continued close coordination with the US administration to advance peace and stability in the region.
The King warned of the dangers of further escalation and the widening of the conflict in the West Bank and Gaza as the Israeli elections approach. He noted that any reckless actions could inflame the region and undermine US efforts to restore calm.
Regarding the West Bank, King Abdullah said that despite President Trump’s firm position against the annexation of West Bank territories, the policies of the Israeli government contradict that position.
The King also stressed the need to halt Israeli incursions in Syria, saying they undermine efforts to restore regional stability and pose a direct threat to Jordan’s national security.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Royal Office Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States Dina Kawar attended the meeting.
