His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday held separate meetings with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and His Royal Highness Guillaume, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.
In the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the King discussed the strong ties of friendship between Jordan, Cyprus and Luxembourg, stressing Jordan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation across various fields.
Addressing developments in the region, King Abdullah underscored the importance of intensifying international efforts to restore de-escalation and supporting efforts by Syria and Lebanon to preserve their security, sovereignty and the safety of their citizens.
The King warned of the dangers of Israel’s attempts to exploit regional conditions to impose a new reality in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, noting that continued escalatory measures against Palestinians risk further aggravating the crisis.
King Abdullah stressed the need to meet the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and establish an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution. He also welcomed Luxembourg’s recognition of the State of Palestine.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and Royal Court Chief Alaa Al-Battayneh attended the two meetings.
