The Saudi-led military coalition supporting Yemen’s government said Saturday that it had intercepted two drones launched by the Houthis toward Riyadh.
Coalition spokesman Turki Al-Malki said on X that Saudi air defenses had intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by the Houthi group toward the Riyadh region.
The renewed hostilities in Yemen between the Houthis and government forces have undermined a years-long truce and drawn Yemen into the wider conflict in the Middle East.
Since then, the Houthis have announced a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia, targeting its tankers and territory, while controlling large areas of Yemen’s Red Sea coastline extending toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a vital route for Saudi oil exports.
In a separate statement, the coalition spokesman added that “air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi group toward Khamis Mushait,” a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia that hosts an air base.
