The minister emphasized the station’s strategic importance in enhancing the reliability of the electricity system in the southern Shuna area. He noted that it serves as a key backbone to ensure continuous power supply for vital projects, including the Zara–Maa’in water pumping project, the King Hussein Bridge expansion, and the development of Al-Maghtas site.
During his visit to several public and private electricity meter units, Kharabsheh stressed the need to monitor local needs and ongoing projects, ensure uninterrupted electricity, maintain service quality, and implement measures to prevent tampering with equipment and guarantee sustainable electricity supply.
Eng. Ziad Al-Suaideh, Chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, noted that field inspections of electricity network sites are part of the commission’s oversight role to ensure system efficiency and uninterrupted service at the highest reliability standards. He highlighted the commission’s focus on enhancing infrastructure readiness, monitoring operational performance on-site, and coordinating with licensed companies to improve service quality, technical readiness, and provide a safe and stable operational environment that supports economic development across Jordan.
Eng. Reem Hamdan, Director General of the Electricity Distribution Company, confirmed that the Al-Rama switchgear station is one of the company’s key vital projects, installed and commissioned earlier this year to serve approximately 3,500 subscribers in the agricultural and strategic sectors.
She stated that the station’s construction cost around 2 million dinars, and it receives electricity from the National Electric Power Company to distribute through five main feeders, offering an alternative supply to part of the Suwaymeh station feeders, which supply the Dead Sea hotels area.
The station consists of 12 medium-voltage (33 kV) cells, along with medium-voltage networks extending 10 km of underground cables and 16 km of overhead lines, connecting the station to existing networks. This improves operational performance, reduces technical losses, and provides an alternative power source.
The minister concluded his visit by inspecting the offices of the Electricity Distribution Company in Shuna Al-Janoubiyya, reviewing the progress of work and efforts to improve service quality for subscribers.
