AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned the escalations at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif by Israeli authorities, and its assault on employees of the Jordan-run awqaf department administering the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque.اضافة اعلان

In a statement, the ministry also condemned the assault of worshippers at Al-Aqsa, as well as admitting a large number of extremists under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Ministry spokesperson Daifallah Al-Fayez said that the Israeli actions are “a dangerous escalation, provocative act and a brazen and unacceptable violation, which stands in the way of international efforts that were mobilized over the past days to deescalate and halt violence in Jerusalem and other occupied Palestinian territories.”

The Israeli occupation forces at dawn Sunday arrested five officials from the Jordan-run awqaf department administering the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al-Sharif, officials in Amman confirmed.

Ten Palestinian youth were arrested at the time of dawn prayers at Al-Aqsa, the third holiest Muslim shrine and a hotspot of confrontation between Palestinians and the Israeli occupation forces and Jewish settlers, who frequently try to storm the holy site, which is under Jordanian custodianship.

The Israel-Hamas ceasefire held into a third day on Sunday as Israel admitted Jewish visitors to Al-Aqsa Mosque, where earlier confrontations with Palestinian protesters helped to ignite the cross-border fighting.
