Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs has condemned the Israeli authorities’ seizure of land belonging to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in the town of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem, describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as a breach of the historical and legal status quo.
The ministry’s official spokesperson, Fouad Al-Majali, reaffirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection of all unilateral and illegal measures and provocative practices aimed at altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites.
Al-Majali stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and compel Israel to halt all illegal measures in occupied Jerusalem, as well as its ongoing violations of the historical and legal status quo at Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He further emphasized the need to fulfill the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on its national territory, as the only path toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
