The Ministry of Interior revealed that it is currently conducting a study and discussions with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to increase the amount of cash assistance—currently set at $100—provided for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees in the Zaatari and Azraq camps who wish to return to their country.اضافة اعلان

The Ministry’s spokesperson, Abdul Karim Abu Dalo, said in response to inquiries by Al-Mamlaka that the ministry has taken several measures to facilitate the voluntary return of Syrian refugees. These include allowing the use of the special service card for the Syrian community to exit Jordan for those who do not hold travel documents to their home country.

Abu Dalo also noted that the ministry has permitted Syrian refugees wishing to depart voluntarily to transport their personal furniture to their country.

He explained that the number of Syrian refugees who voluntarily left Jordan to return to their country between December 8, 2024, and January 31, 2026, reached 184,827 refugees.

According to data from UNHCR in Jordan, the number of refugees registered with the agency stood at around 444,000 by the end of last month, including 413,000 Syrian refugees, accounting for 94% of the total refugee population in the Kingdom.

UNHCR emphasized that returning to Syria remains a personal and entirely voluntary choice, stressing that it does not promote return nor pressure refugees to make such a decision. Rather, its role is limited to providing the necessary information and support to enable each refugee to make a free and informed decision based on a full understanding of conditions inside Syria.
