“Greater Amman Municipality” and “Local Administration”: Flagpoles Are Mandatory
Nasser Al-Rahmanah, official spokesperson for the Greater Amman Municipality, stated that installing a flagpole to fly the Jordanian flag in front of existing buildings is a mandatory condition for obtaining a “construction permit.”اضافة اعلان

Al-Rahmanah explained in press remarks that the flagpole must have a diameter of at least 4 inches and a thickness of no less than 1.8 mm, with its length proportional to the size of the flag. Safety standards must be observed, and the overall appearance of the building must not be distorted.

He added: “The flagpole must be at least 4 meters high if the building has a front setback. If there is no setback, it is sufficient to place a horizontally positioned 2-meter flag on the building facade.” He emphasized that the cost of installing the flagpole is borne by the building owner and estimated that it would be very modest, not exceeding 80 Jordanian dinars.

According to the instructions published in the Official Gazette on “Specifications and Dimensions of Flagpoles for Existing Buildings within the Municipality Limits,” installing a Jordanian flagpole is now mandatory. It should be positioned either in the front setback of the building or on its facade if there is no setback.

The instructions specify that the flagpole must be metallic, with a minimum diameter of 2 inches and a thickness of no less than 1.8 mm, equipped with a top cap made of copper or iron, a pulley, and fastening ropes, ensuring safety and an appropriate appearance.

Minimum heights are set at 4 meters in residential areas and 5 meters in other regulated areas. Buildings without a front setback must have a horizontal pole on the front facade at least 2 meters long.

The number of flagpoles is determined by the width of the building plot: one pole is sufficient for plots up to 40 meters, with additional poles added for longer plots according to the formula of dividing the plot length by 40 meters, maintaining equal spacing.

The Ministry of Local Administration also issued specifications for buildings within municipal areas, requiring each building owner to install a flagpole in the front setback or on the roof according to the standards above.

For existing buildings with a front setback, the flagpole must be placed vertically at the edge of the plot facing the road, at a minimum height of 4 meters.

For buildings without a front setback, the pole should be placed horizontally on the front facade, inclined upwards, with a minimum length of 2 meters and the top at least 4 meters above the adjacent road level.

Except for buildings in provincial centers, priority areas must place the flagpole on the roof, at a height of no less than 2.5 meters from the roof surface, and the distance between the pole and the front roof edge should not exceed 1 meter.
