Al-Ziyoud reassured the Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee on Sunday that Jordan maintains sufficient strategic reserves of petroleum products and gas, confirming that tankers loaded with these supplies are currently en route to the Kingdom.
The parliamentary committee, chaired by MP Ayman Abu Haniyeh, discussed the readiness of Jordan's energy sector and the implications of regional developments on the electrical grid and the industrial sector.
Abu Haniyeh highlighted the significant challenges facing factories and companies due to regional crises, emphasizing that the industrial sector is a primary contributor to the national budget and a major driver of the economy. He noted that the committee has received complaints regarding gas supply disruptions to some factories, which threatens production continuity.
During the meeting, attended by EMRC representative Abdelsalam Al-Ziyoud and Jordan Chamber of Industry member Iyad Abu Haltam, several MPs—including Abdel Basset Al-Kabariti, Jamal Qamwah, Mai Al-Harahsheh, Rakin Abu Haniyeh, Iman Al-Abbasi, and Naseem Al-Abbadi—called for a clear strategic plan to handle current challenges. They also urged for an increased transition toward renewable energy within the industrial sector.
For his part, Abu Haltam pointed out delays in licensing procedures for factories wishing to adopt renewable energy. He called for expediting these processes to help reduce energy costs and enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector.
