Spokesperson of Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Muhannad Al-Khatib said that the vaccination campaign, which involves public and private university members, will start soon after Eid Al-Fitter.

The number of the teaching staff stands at 11,394, and the administrative staff at 18,350, totaling 29,677, according to the officials, who added that the campaign will then shift to students — totaling 350,000 — under a set of conditions. Khatib said priority will be given to the 6,000 students pursuing their clinical years in both medical and dentistry schools.

He stated that the priority criteria are in compliance with what has been decided by officials who deemed that students who will be in direct contact with the public should be the first to receive the jab. These are followed by students whose majors requires their physical presence on campus like physical education students. The last to be vaccinated are students of humanities and similar fields.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research last Tuesday declared that it vaccinated all its employees on ministry grounds with assistance provided by a special team from the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry’s Secretary General Mamoun Al-Debie issued a circular last Sunday requesting staff and the student body at all universities, both public and private, to register for vaccination so that in-class education for the upcoming academic year could be resumed. The campuses of the 15 universities in Jordan are furnished with vaccination booths as a measure to ease the campaign’s impact, Khatib said.
