The ceremony took place at the council's headquarters with the attendance Riyahi, the council's Secretary-General and the managing editor of the "Our Life" team at Al-Ghad newspaper.

Riyahi, who is visually impaired, has been working with the newspaper since 2012 and has made her mark in journalism through reports covering topics surrounding people with disabilities.

She sheds light on the problems and challenges they constantly face while noting that her experience has not been one without difficulty.

"The honoring today was a coronation of 10 years of hard work. My entrance into journalism was not at all easy. Quite the opposite. It exposed me to many difficulties in this period of time, but thank god, I went through this with the support of all of the people around me,” Riyahi said in an interview with Jordan News. “Every person, every colleague in Al-Ghad, had a part in this. And also my parents, as well. I have a passion and honor in this, and a love for journalism."

The prince praised the outstanding work and determination that made Riyahi the first Jordan’s first visually-impaired journalist to become a member of the journalists' syndicate and a prominent female journalist at Al-Ghad.

The prince praised the outstanding work and determination that made Riyahi the first Jordan’s first visually-impaired journalist to become a member of the journalists' syndicate and a prominent female journalist at Al-Ghad.

Despite the achievement, Riyahi said that she still plans to bring attention to the stigma surrounding disabilities in society. She called on media establishments and companies to allow those with disabilities to be part of their institutions. She said those with impairments have the right to work, just as anyone else does, to live their lives, and to prove their worth.

She noted that Al-Ghad played an influential role in her life at the start of her career. Her fortitude in journalism never wavered as a result of the encouragement and support she received within the newspaper.

In a statement to Al-Ghad newspaper, she described the honor as motivation to continue her work.

"Al-Ghad news is lucky to have a highly-skilled and professional journalist such as Ruba in the newspaper,” Ferihan Al-Hassan, managing editor of the "Our Life" team said. “Her stories are rarely edited since she always seeks to produce high quality work."

Hassan added that Riyahi is one of the best journalists at Al-Ghad news.

Riyahi continues to believe in her abilities and strengths, and although there are challenges, she said that she does not view her restrictions as a setback.

"The honoring today by HH Prince Mired is a big honor for me especially in my career. This gave me the support and encouraged me to keep going to do more for my country Jordan," she said. "I want to communicate their (persons with disabilities) cases, because I am a part of this group. So I will always strive to present a different picture of those with disabilities, even if I contribute in a very small way to the general perception of those with disabilities."
