Al-Khasawneh stated that the company aims to reach this target by the end of the year, relying on expansion plans that include drilling additional wells and contracting with specialized drilling companies. The plans also involve the implementation of a project to build 40 kilometers of internal gas pipelines within the field.
He noted that the company has started to move away from the single-buyer model for natural gas, which was previously limited to the National Electric Power Company. Now, private sector companies have entered the gas transportation market. A consortium of “Jordan Gas” and “Watani” has begun transporting gas using compressed gas technology to industrial sector users. Additionally, “UniGas” is expected to start operations next month, while “Manaseer” is anticipated to join the system by the end of the year.
The company had previously announced a long-term strategy aiming for self-sufficiency in natural gas, with a plan based on three main pillars to increase production to 418 million cubic feet per day by 2030.
The Council of Ministers has approved a decision allowing the National Petroleum Company to retain its 2024 dues to the Treasury, amounting to 3.4 million dinars, for use in the development of the Risha field. This includes drilling 80 new wells to boost production levels.
According to the company’s latest figures, its share of revenue from natural gas sales last year amounted to approximately 711,050 dinars, compared to 873,520 dinars in the previous year.
This revenue was based on a production-sharing agreement with the government, which grants the company the government’s share of returns to support its expansion plans aimed at achieving a daily production of 418 million cubic feet of natural gas by 2030.
It is worth noting that the National Petroleum Company’s concession area is located in the Risha gas field in northeastern Jordan, about 370 kilometers from the capital Amman, covering an area of around 7,500 square kilometers. The field is bordered by Iraq to the east, Syria to the north, and Saudi Arabia to the south. The terrain is characterized by flat desert plains composed of gravel, with elevations ranging from 850 to 950 meters above sea level.
