AMMAN — On Wednesday, the Aqaba Marine Protected Area
Authority and the Regional Authority for the Preservation of the Red Sea and
the Gulf of Aden Environment launched a campaign to clean the seabed on the
beach of Al-Saddasat within the boundaries of the Aqaba Marine Protected Area
in the city of Aqaba.
The campaign was organized under the slogan, "Clean Our
Seas,” aimed to preserve the marine environment by cleaning the seabed of
environmentally polluting waste.
Nasser Al-Zuwaidah, Director of the Aqaba Marine Protected
Area, highlighted the importance of the campaign in showing the true
civilizational and tourist face of the city of Aqaba and providing a clean
environment for its residents and visitors.
During the campaign, 20 divers from various entities in
Aqaba participated and were able to extract about 45 kilograms of various
wastes, with plastic wastes constituting the largest percentage of the extracted
wastes in the form of water bottles, juices, and plastic cups.
Kamash Yasin, President of the Aqaba Diving Association,
emphasized that maintaining the cleanliness of diving sites is a tourism
priority.
