AMMAN —
Madaba’s Director of Tourism Wael Jainini said that the governorate has seen an
increase in tourist activity as a result of the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Jordan Tourism Board, Ad-Dustour daily reported.
More than 20,000
tourists visited the governorate in the first two months of the year, with most
stopping to visit St George’s Greek Orthodox Church.
Other popular tourist
attractions visited included the Church of the Map, the Madaba Visitor Center,
the Church of the Apostles, the Archaeological Park and the Madaba Museum, the
Mukawir site, the Ma'in hot springs, the Dead Sea panorama, and Mount Nebo, the
latter being the most site.
Jainini said
that Jordanians made up the majority of visitors but foreigners from the US,
France, Spain, Romania, Germany, the UK, and Russia also visited the
governorate.
