Shamali issued a statement commending the continuous support the US offers Jordan, which helps it prop up its economy and face many challenges, and called on the US to renew the wheat grant agreement this year.

The minister said the US is a key trade partner to Jordan, a partnership that got a boost when Jordan and the US signed the free trade agreement.

Shamali also met with the Romanian Minister of Agriculture Adrian Chesnoiu, with whom he discussed economic cooperation, food security, increasing bilateral trade, and encouraging their respective private sector to strike investment partnerships that serve the interests of both countries.

Romania is considered a key export market; Jordan imports wheat, barley, meat, and livestock from Romania, said Shamali, stressing the importance of the economic cooperation and the need to take advantage of the opportunities the two countries offer.

Chesnoiu reiterated his country’s interest in expanding economic cooperation with Jordan, especially in food security, trade, investment, exchange of expertise, etc.
