According to Dr. Tarasov, Vitamin D deficiency becomes particularly acute during and after the winter months, when sunlight is insufficient and the body expends significant energy to adapt to cold and frost. Numerous studies indicate that while deficiency is often present year-round, it worsens significantly following the winter season.
"We conducted a study to examine Vitamin D levels among our university students in the spring," Tarasov stated. "The results showed that levels were significantly lower. While deficiency existed generally, the situation was very difficult before spring, with almost everyone suffering from a severe deficiency."
Impact on Immunity and Mental Health
The professor pointed out that Vitamin D is responsible, among other things, for bone health and the immune system. During spring, when the body must fight off viruses and bacteria, a lack of this vitamin can weaken immunity. Furthermore, deficiency can lead to psycho-emotional symptoms such as anxiety and depression.
According to Dr. Tarasov, university researchers have proven that the intensity of these anxiety and depression symptoms is directly linked, among other factors, to Vitamin D deficiency.
