Here's how to make it at home:
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
500 g chicken breast, cut into bite-sized cubes
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Orange Sauce:
1 cup fresh orange juice
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
1 tbsp rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp grated fresh ginger
1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
Orange zest (optional, for extra flavor)
Crushed red chili flakes (optional)
Instructions:
Season the chicken pieces with salt and black pepper.
Beat the egg in one bowl. In another bowl, combine the flour and cornstarch.
Dip each piece of chicken into the beaten egg, then coat thoroughly with the flour and cornstarch mixture.
Heat oil over medium heat and fry the chicken until golden brown and crispy.
Transfer the fried chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
To Make the Orange Sauce
Heat a small amount of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Stir in the orange juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, and vinegar. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Add the cornstarch slurry while stirring continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
Add the fried chicken to the pan and toss until every piece is evenly coated with the sauce.
Serving Suggestion:
Serve the orange chicken hot with steamed white rice or jasmine rice for a classic Chinese-inspired meal.
