The South Korean sci-fi thriller Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin, dominated the weekend box office in South Korea from July 17 to 19, delivering a strong debut with $11.3 million in revenue from 1.5 million ticket sales. The film captured a massive 66.6% market share of total theatrical revenue, according to data from the Korean Film Council.

As one of the country's most prominent productions of the year, Hope boasts a star-studded local and international cast, including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and HoYeon Jung, alongside global stars Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander.
The movie follows the residents of a secluded coastal village who face a mysterious threat after an alien entity appears on the outskirts of their town, turning their peaceful life into a desperate battle for survival. Driven by strong audience demand since its release, the film's cumulative gross reached $16 million with over 2.12 million total admissions.
Minions & Monsters secured second place with $2.1 million in weekend earnings, while Moana came in third, taking in $1.2 million during its second week.
Toy Story 5 finished fourth, adding $835,000 to bring its total earnings to $19.1 million, while the psychological horror film The Eyes ranked fifth with $553,000, bringing its cumulative total to $9.9 million.
Korean theaters experienced a notable recovery over the weekend, with total box office gross reaching $17.1 million, compared to $8.2 million the previous week.
