The Elon Musk-owned platform X has launched an all-new version of its Android application, following nearly a year of complete redevelopment aimed at resolving issues that previously rendered it less efficient compared to its iOS counterpart.

The company confirmed that the new application was built entirely from scratch—rather than as a mere update to the prior release—featuring enhancements in content loading speed, scrolling smoothness, notifications, and overall performance. It is now available for download via the Google Play Store.
Development of the application began roughly a year ago after Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, announced the formation of a dedicated team to redesign the Android user experience.
He later explained that a significant surge in Android downloads last October turned the development of this new version into a top priority for the company.
Bier described the project as one of the largest engineering undertakings in X's history, noting that the new app is faster, smoother, and more reliable, while allowing the company to roll out new features at a faster pace.
Over recent months, X has accelerated the launch of new features, including X Money and X Chat—both of which received standalone applications—as part of the platform's transition into a multi-service "everything app."
The company hopes the new version will help attract more users, particularly in markets dominated by the Android operating system, following years of declining app quality on the platform. Performance issues had escalated last year to the point where the app occasionally failed to load posts when opening links.
Despite the rollout, Bier indicated that work remains ongoing to optimize performance on older devices and introduce full support for Live Audio Spaces. He also revealed that additional features, such as a new video editor, video reactions, support for Cashtags, and custom timelines, will be coming to Android users soon.
Existing Android users can obtain the new version by updating the application through the Google Play Store.
