For his part, Aziz Abu Khalaf, secretary-general of the Jordan Rugby Federation, said hosting the tournament represented an important milestone in the local development of the sport and an opportunity to strengthen the national teams’ presence in Asian competitions. He stressed that the federation was committed to providing all the necessary preparation and organizational requirements to ensure the tournament’s success and support the progress of both the men’s and women’s national teams.
Abu Khalaf added that the federation was pursuing a gradual, carefully planned approach to developing women’s rugby at the national-team level. The strategy aims to build a solid base of players, strengthen their technical and competitive experience, and enable Jordan to represent itself with distinction in international competitions.
He explained that the women’s team began its journey by participating in Arab tournaments before progressing to the continental level. The team made its debut in the Asia Rugby Sevens competition at the previous edition, hosted by Oman, marking an important milestone in its development and helping players gain the experience needed to compete at the Asian level.
“This is our second consecutive participation at the continental level. It represents another step forward for the women’s team and an important opportunity to build on previous achievements, assess the progress made in the players’ performances, and strengthen their physical, technical and tactical readiness,” he said.
He added that the federation was placing increasing emphasis on developing women’s rugby, providing competitive opportunities, expanding the player base and nurturing promising talent, with the aim of consolidating the national team’s presence on the Asian stage.
Hosting the continental tournament forms part of the federation’s broader efforts to expand participation in the sport, raise the technical standards of national teams and strengthen Jordan’s presence in Asian competitions. It also supports the Kingdom’s position as a destination for regional and continental sporting events, opening new opportunities for male and female players to continue developing and achieve further success.
