The Fuhais and Riyadi match will launch the championship on Wednesday at the Fuheis Hall at 7pm. Soon after, the U18 women’s national team will play the Orthodox Club at 7:30pm in the Orthodox Hall.

In the history of the league, the Orthodox Club hold the title for most wins, with 15 titles under their belt, followed by Al-Jazira, Al-Riyadi, Aramex, and Shabab Al-Fuhais with three titles each, while Al- Mokawloon won one title in the 2012.

The league was first formed in 1990, however, for several years since its inception (1997, 1999, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2017, and 2021) the league was not able to be held for different reasons.

According to the rules of the league, one foreign player is allowed to participate in each team, with the exception of the U18 national team,  however, the foreign player must be added to the team sheet no later than August 2.  Because of this, three foreign players have been added to three different roasters competing in the league: Houda Hamrouni will play with Al-Riyadi Aramex, American Monique Reed will play with  Shabab Al-Fuhais, and  American Sarah Mgbeike with the Orthodox Club.

The league follows a groups-to-elimination system, where four teams will compete against each other in a single group, eventually being ranked from 1–4. Following this stage, the winners of the group will play the fourth seed, while the second seed plays the thrid seed in a best-of-three series of matches.

The winner of the two three-series games will then play each other for the title, while the losers compete against each other for the bronze medal.
