Amman — Local fans in general, and Al-Wehdat's fans in particular, were surprised by the exclusion of midfielder Mohammad Al-Daoud from the team's Pro League match against Al-Ramtha last Friday evening, for the third round of the tournament.

Al-Daoud, who joined the team at the start of this year coming from Al-Faisaly, has been one of Al-Wehdat's mainstays over recent periods, given the technical addition and attacking value he's provided since arriving, yet he was the most notable absence from the team against Al-Ramtha, a match "the Green" lost 1-0, leaving the team without a win through its first 3 rounds.
Al-Daoud, 34, regained his form with Al-Wehdat, returning once again to the national team's ranks, becoming one of the players who represented the "Nashama" at the 2026 World Cup, where he got the chance to play and take part in the opening group-stage match against Austria, coming on as a substitute in that fixture.
Al-Daoud was also one of the players who represented Al-Wehdat last season, having joined during the second half, and finished the season as the team's top scorer in the Pro League with 6 goals, staying on for another season despite earlier talk of his intention to leave.
According to details obtained by Al Ghad regarding Al-Daoud's exclusion from the Al-Ramtha match, head coach Wassim Al-Bzour spoke with him during training sessions ahead of the match, telling him he would be on the bench rather than continuing as a starter, which Al-Daoud objected to, before his frustration grew further when the coach asked the administration to send him to play with the reserve team.
Al-Daoud accepted the matter afterward, training alone on Thursday, one day before the Al-Ramtha match, without taking part in group training sessions, before being absent from the Pro League match, and taking part the following day, the day before yesterday, with the reserve team against Al-Ramtha in the Federation Shield tournament for players under 21.
The tournament's regulations allow for the participation of 4 first-team players over the age of 21, which put Al-Daoud on the squad list against Al-Ramtha, coming on as a substitute during the second half, and refusing to wear the captain's armband, leaving it instead to his teammate Ayham Al-Samamreh.
Al-Daoud delivered a standout performance in the match, successfully setting up his team's only goal with a precise cross, while giving up the chance to take a penalty in favor of his teammate Mousa Bujan, who missed it, though he respected his teammates' wishes on the pitch to contribute.
Al-Wehdat's administration is moving toward officially announcing the termination of head coach Wassim Al-Bzour's contract, following the team's poor results at the start of the season, having lost the Super Cup semi-final to Al-Faisaly 1-2, before drawing goalless with the same team in the Pro League opener, then drawing again with Al-Salt 0-0, before losing 1-0 to Al-Ramtha.
Al-Daoud is expected to return to normal training with Al-Wehdat's team, given the administration's move toward relieving the technical and administrative staff of their duties in the coming days, as the dispute was between Al-Bzour and Al-Daoud, while the administration remains committed to the player and has no desire to terminate his contract over the coach's wish not to include him in a particular match.
Al-Wehdat's fans grew angry over the past few days at coach Al-Bzour's decision, which they considered unfair to one of the team's most important experienced players, one capable of scoring and creating chances at any moment, while saluting the player, who didn't refuse the decision to play with the reserve team and handled the matter with complete professionalism, earning him a salute on the pitch during the reserve league match.
