The rivalry between Argentine superstar Lionel Messi and Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo continues, even after both players ended their European careers, with the two pursuing individual milestones including the 1,000-goal mark and other records.

Messi scored in the early hours of Thursday as Inter Miami defeated Mexico’s Cruz Azul 2-0 in the Champions Cup final.
The goal took Messi’s career tally to 929 across all competitions, although he remains behind Saudi Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 979 goals.
Messi has scored 125 goals for Argentina, 627 for Barcelona, 100 for Inter Miami and 32 for French club Paris Saint-Germain.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, has scored 146 international goals for Portugal, 450 for Real Madrid, 145 for Manchester United, 132 for Al Nassr, 101 for Italian club Juventus and five for Portuguese side Sporting.
Messi and Ronaldo’s Trophy Race
Another chapter in the rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo is their pursuit of 50 career trophies. The Champions Cup has taken Messi’s total to 49 titles won with his clubs and national team.
Ronaldo, by comparison, has won 35 trophies, including five UEFA Champions League titles, seven domestic league titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, one European Championship and two UEFA Nations League titles, in addition to numerous domestic and continental cups with the clubs he has represented.
