AMMAN — Varsity letterman jackets, or as known in Jordan, senior jackets, have become a staple for Jordanian high school seniors. They provide a unique, casual, and versatile option for daily wear. MIND Jackets seeks to offer various variations — while maintaining the classical style — and giving customers choices for customizations.اضافة اعلان

MIND creates fashion-forward designs in a variety of styles and colors. “MIND Jacket can be fashionable in many ways. It’s all about how you wear it. Our jacket was seen three times on red-carpet events in the Middle East, and it was just a simple black jacket with a quote written on the back,” Lara Al-Ali, Founder of MIND Jackets, said in an interview with Jordan News.

The word “MIND” was chosen to represent the uniqueness of every jacket or collection MIND produces. Similar to the concept of the human mind being unique to each individual, MIND pieces represent individuality and ideas unique to the wearer.

“MIND is the perfect name for the company as you present your idea, designs, quotes, and we create a jacket that will make you proud to wear as no one in the world will ever have the same jacket as you,” Ali said.

The varsity-style jacket, usually referred to as a letterman jacket, dates back to the 1930s and has long been associated with American athletic culture. The jacket, which was covered with sewn-on patches or letters, was worn as a uniform or part of a uniform and historically depicted the letters of the school or establishment that the athlete represented.

More recently, the jackets have become more famous as a style item and are increasingly sold at common fashion stores. In Jordan, the letterman jacket was rebranded as a high school senior symbol, with the jackets designed to represent the graduating class of a specific school.

The idea of entering the jacket industry came after Ali wore her bomber jacket with her initials stitched on it. Over 10 people stopped her to ask where her jacket was from and how they could get the same concept in different colors with different designs. This led her to start her own business.

“On February 28, 2015, I uploaded an image saying September would blow your MIND, and at the time, I was simply trying to come up with a brand name that represented myself and everything about making jackets,” she said.

The varsity jackets feature a wool or leather body, leather, vinyl, or wool sleeves, a leather pocket trim, and various color choices that customers can use to customize the jacket.

“MIND Jackets presents how everyone can represent their ideas and thoughts on a jacket, or just wear it as a plain jacket customized with their favorite colors,” Ali said.

The founder added that her mentality changed once she finished her bachelor’s in business management from Lebanon and took a design course which helped her deal with designing the jackets and studying the fabrics.
“I took an extensive training course which covered all the process of designing and making jackets as well,” Ali said.

When it comes to interacting with different people and presenting different teams and individuals with various concepts and designs, Ali shared that she prefers things to be simple and meaningful. “We have an amazing team that wants to ensure customers get the best quality jackets, so we ensure that they can design and customize their jackets by making the process as simple as possible,” she said.

Ali added that MIND Jackets had been sold in 14 countries, and she hopes to open a store in Australia in the near future.

“Failure was my biggest fear, and every day was a different kind of challenge,” the founder said after sharing that a lot of people were unsupportive of her and her business.

“My parents are my true inspirations in everything as they supported me when I told them I want to start a company selling designed jackets; having such support made my inspiration unlimited,” she said.

The founder added that “It is all about connecting everything that happens with you in life, and each one of us will pass through an amazing opportunity its either you pick it up and make the best out of it, or you just let it go.”

For schools and individuals, MIND Jackets creates any design. This outerwear was once popular among male and female students at various schools and colleges. Still, MIND Jackets has evolved into a high-fashion item that is now available to everyone.

Dalal Abi Rafeh, director and sales manager of MIND Jackets, told Jordan News in an interview that all materials are sourced from outside Jordan. Still, production takes place in a factory in Jordan.

She added that MIND Jackets also offers a collection of hoodies and polo shirts that are also customizable similarly to the jackets. They are also offered in Jordan, Lebanon, and Europe, and soon in Africa.

She added that all the designs on jackets are embroidered and not printed. 
Abi Rafeh added that MIND Jackets does sale follow-ups and keeps the lines of communication between their customers open. She also added that MIND Jackets are planning on launching their website and online shop soon.

Zaid Al-Aqrabawi, a designer at MIND Jackets, told Jordan News that design ideas are chosen either as a customer suggestion and developed into a design or based on proposals and designs from the MIND team.

“Customers usually choose dark colors such as black and grey. As for designs, we stay up to date regarding fashion by keeping in touch with the latest trends,” Aqrabawi said.
