The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) issued a warning to citizens on Tuesday regarding electronic fraud attempts, urging the public to avoid clicking on any links received from unknown sources or those impersonating official institutions.

In its statement, the TRC emphasized the importance of not falling for fake or unreliable shopping offers and warned against responding to any entity requesting money transfers or the sharing of personal data.
Crucially, the Commission highlighted a sophisticated new threat: AI-generated voice scams. It urged citizens not to respond to any calls requesting funds—even if the caller's voice sounds like a family member—as such audio can now be fabricated using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The TRC advised people to hang up and call the family member back directly to verify the authenticity of the request before taking any action.
