France: Wildfires Force Hundreds to Flee

Local authorities in the Var region of southern France reported on Wednesday that fast-moving wildfires that broke out in the area yesterday have destroyed 2,500 hectares and forced 400 people to flee their homes.اضافة اعلان

"The situation is extremely difficult; around 1,100 firefighters worked throughout the night," William Vogel, a spokesperson for the local fire service, told radio station RMC, according to Reuters.

The spokesperson noted that the fires had not been contained as of this morning, though winds are expected to become "more favorable" today despite high temperatures.

The Var region administrative authority also reported that power remains cut to 2,300 households today.
