French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed on Monday that European sanctions imposed on Iran will not be lifted until Tehran abandons its nuclear program, its ballistic missiles, and its actions that "destabilize" the region.

In an interview with BFM TV and RMC radio, Barrot said, "Sanctions will not be lifted against the Iranian regime until it abandons its nuclear program, its revolutionary project that destabilizes the region, and its ballistic missile program, some of which could one day target Europe," and "until it grants Iranians the freedom to build their future."
Responding to a question regarding the renewed tensions between Iran and the United States, the French minister refrained from confirming a return to war.
"The reality is that an agreement was reached that allows for very simple things: a ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the start of negotiations to strictly regulate the Iranian nuclear program," he said.
Barrot renewed his call to all parties to return to the "negotiating protocol established by this agreement because they do not wish for escalation."
The United States bombed Iran again, and Tehran responded on Monday by targeting countries in the region allied with Washington, in unprecedented strikes from both sides since the April 8 ceasefire.
