Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki, spokesman for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, announced that four drones launched toward Saudi Arabia had been intercepted and destroyed.
In a brief statement on Thursday, Al-Malki said the interceptions and destruction of the drones took place in the Medina and Eastern regions, amid continued drone and missile attacks targeting areas of Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, the coalition announced the destruction of a ballistic missile launch platform used by the Houthi group to fire a missile toward the Saudi capital, Riyadh, after announcing that the missile itself had been intercepted and destroyed. In a separate operation, the coalition also announced the interception and destruction of a drone in the Riyadh region.
The developments come amid an escalation in Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, particularly targeting airports and civilian facilities, alongside the continued military operations carried out by the coalition in Yemen.
During a press conference on October 15, Al-Malki said King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh had been subjected to 20 attacks since the beginning of the month. He said attacks targeting the airport between October 7 and 11 resulted in 17 deaths and 333 injuries and involved drones, missiles and other projectiles.
He added that coalition forces had destroyed 127 Houthi storage facilities in mountainous areas, along with launch platforms and ballistic missile depots, stressing that attacks on Saudi airports pose a threat to regional security.
