At least four people were killed and 13 others injured in Kyiv after Russia launched a ballistic missile attack overnight from Friday into Saturday, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko initially said on Telegram that three people had been killed in the capital. Shortly afterward, the Kyiv City Military Administration updated the death toll to four.
The military administration also said the number of injured had risen to 13, after Klitschko had earlier reported that 10 people were wounded and urged residents to remain in shelters.
Multiple explosions were heard across the Ukrainian capital, triggering car alarms throughout the city.
Authorities reported that the attack sparked a fire in a six-story residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district.
“The threat of ballistic missile attacks remains,” the Kyiv City Military Administration said, urging residents to stay in shelters until the air raid alert is lifted.
The latest strike came a day after eight people, including six members of the same family, were killed near Kryvyi Rih, while two others died in separate attacks on Kyiv and Poltava.
Russia has intensified its use of ballistic missiles against Ukraine in recent weeks. These missiles can only be intercepted by specialized air defense systems, including the U.S.-made Patriot system.
Ukraine has faced a growing shortage of PAC-3 interceptor missiles, which are required for Patriot batteries, following the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran in February. Kyiv hopes to begin domestic production after receiving initial approval from U.S. President Donald Trump in early July.
However, Trump later said the United States must be “very careful” about granting Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot air defense missiles.
Responding to a question on the issue, Trump said: “These weapons are incredible. We have to be very careful about allowing anyone to manufacture them.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine has stepped up long-range strikes on Russian cities far from the border in a campaign that Kyiv says targets strategic infrastructure, particularly oil-related facilities.
