U.S. Central Command announced that it carried out a strike in Syria that killed a senior attack planner affiliated with al-Qaeda.
In a statement posted on the “X” platform, CENTCOM said its forces conducted a precision strike in Syria on October 2, resulting in the death of Muhammad Abdulwahab al-Ahmad, described as a senior attack planner and member of Ansar al-Islam, a terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda.
CENTCOM stressed that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to target terrorist leaders and disrupt their ability to plan and execute attacks, noting that al-Ahmad posed a direct threat to regional security and U.S. interests.
Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command, said American forces in the Middle East remain ready to disrupt and defeat terrorists’ attempts to plan, organize, and carry out attacks. He added: “We will continue to defend our homeland, our service members, our allies, and our partners throughout the region and beyond.”
