Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are currently treating hundreds of patients of all ages suffering from acute hunger and malnutrition, many of whom are in critical states of exhaustion.
The same sources indicated that around 17,000 children are suffering from severe malnutrition. Medical teams are also dealing with cases involving extreme fatigue and memory loss caused by prolonged hunger. Hospitals lack sufficient medical beds and supplies to treat the overwhelming number of malnutrition patients.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) had previously warned that the rate of malnutrition among children under the age of five had doubled between March and June, due to the ongoing Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.
UNRWA reported that its health centers and medical points conducted nearly 74,000 screenings during this period to detect malnutrition in children, identifying around 5,500 cases of severe acute malnutrition and over 800 cases of critical acute malnutrition.
