SANA reported that internal security forces have begun entering Sheikh Maqsoud in coordination with the army to complete search and inspection operations and secure the area.

The Syrian Ministry of Health said that PKK militants converted Yassin Hospital in Sheikh Maqsoud into a military point.

The Syrian Army announced on Saturday morning the completion of a security operation in Sheikh Maqsoud, where Kurdish fighters are stationed.

These developments come days after intense clashes between Kurdish and government forces that erupted on Tuesday in the Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo, resulting in 21 fatalities, with both sides exchanging accusations over who instigated the fighting.

On Saturday morning, the Syrian Army declared the “complete clearing of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo” in an operation launched late Friday, urging civilians to “stay in their homes and not go outside.”

These events occur amid stalled negotiations between Damascus and the SDF since a March agreement called for integrating Kurdish self-administration institutions into the Syrian state.

Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire in the two neighborhoods, granting Kurdish fighters a deadline to evacuate in preparation for relocation to SDF-controlled areas in northeastern Syria.

The fighters refused, stating they would continue to “defend” their areas. The Kurdish forces said, “The call from the temporary Damascus government to our people and security forces is an invitation to surrender, but our people in these neighborhoods are determined to stay and defend their districts.”
