strong explosion was heard Sunday in a busy area in the heart of Istanbul,
Turkish media reported, saying that people had been injured and killed.
The explosion occurred shortly after 4pm
(1300 GMT), reported the television channel NTV.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry announced
that there are no Jordanian casualties.
The cause of the explosion has not been
confirmed by officials, but Turkish media suspect that it was a suicide
bombing.
Emergency services were sent to
Istiklal Avenue, near Taksim Square, a busy shopping center in central
Istanbul.
