GAZA – The Yasin 105 Anti-tank rocket, originally of Russian origin, was modified by Hamas engineers over the years to go from an armored vehicle destroyer to be able to destroy the highly lauded and feared Israeli Merkava tank.

Named after Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, the founder of Hamas, the rockets were first used for the first time in the "Al-Aqsa Flood" battle, launched against settlements in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023 and have proven to be highly effective.

The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, developed the Yasin 105 rocket. It was based on the Russian "Tandem 85" rocket, which was first used by Hamas in the "Al-Furqan" battle in January 2009. It was initially used to target an Israeli armored personnel carrier to the east of the town of Jabalia in northern Gaza and completely destroyed it.

In the "Al-Asif Al-Ma'kul" battle in July 2014, the resistance used a Russian-developed version of the "Tandem 85" rocket, which proved its effectiveness by destroying 9 Israeli tanks.

In February 2017, the Qassam Brigades announced that they had developed a locally produced version of the "Tandem 85" rocket, naming it the "Yasin 105". They claimed to have made improvements that enhanced its accuracy and effectiveness against tanks and armored vehicles in general.

Features and SpecificationsThe Yasin shell consists of a dual destructive head, containing two charges that explode in two stages; the first explodes and breaches the outer armor, and the second penetrates the tank's steel and explodes inside it.

The range of the "Yasin 105" shell is estimated to be between 100 and 500 meters, with an effective range of about 150 meters, and its maximum speed reaches 300 meters per second.
