Iraqi Judiciary Warns: No Breach of Constitutional Timelines, No Foreign Interference
The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq emphasized today, Thursday, the importance of adhering to constitutional timelines for appointing the President and Prime Minister, while warning against any foreign intervention. This follows the postponement of a parliamentary session to elect the President at the request of the two main Kurdish parties, and U.S. President Donald Trump’s rejection of the nomination of State of Law coalition leader Nouri al-Maliki for the second post.اضافة اعلان

The statement came during the council’s first session, chaired by the Federal Court of Cassation judge, Faiq Zidan.

According to the council’s statement, it stressed “the importance of complying with constitutional timelines in completing the procedures for appointing the President and Prime Minister.”

The council called on all political parties and forces in Iraq to “respect these timelines, avoid violating them, and ensure political stability and the proper conduct of the democratic process within constitutional and legal frameworks, while preventing any foreign interference.”

The council also discussed procedures related to investigating and prosecuting individuals transferred from detention centers in Syria to reform institutions within Iraq.
