The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence, during which the two leaders discussed developments in the war in Ukraine ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara.
According to Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency, Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president’s foreign policy adviser, said the two presidents discussed efforts to reach a settlement to the conflict in Ukraine, particularly in light of Trump’s expected participation in the NATO summit in Türkiye on July 7–8.
“The presidents naturally discussed the issue of reaching a settlement in Ukraine, taking into account Donald Trump’s upcoming participation in the NATO summit in Türkiye on July 7 and 8,” Ushakov was quoted as saying.
Earlier on Saturday, Kyiv announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had also held a separate telephone conversation with Trump.
