The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip issued a press statement on Monday regarding the resignation of the head of the Government Emergency Committee and Acting Head of Government Follow-up, the dissolution of the Government Emergency Committee, and the completion of preparations to transfer administrative duties to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

The National Committee, chaired by Ali Shaath, was formed by the Peace Council established by U.S. President Donald Trump after playing a mediating role in the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel in October.
Since the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect in Gaza last October, Hamas has repeatedly affirmed its readiness to step down from administering the Strip's affairs and hand them over to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which comprises independent experts and professionals.
Following Israel's assassination of the head of the Government Committee, Issam al-Da'alis, in March 2025, Mohammad al-Farra—who previously held the Ministry of Local Government and Municipalities—took over the chairmanship of the twenty-member Government Committee.
A Hamas source stated that al-Farra will tender his resignation and that of his committee, transitioning into a "temporary caretaker committee."
An official from a Palestinian faction who participated in the Cairo talks mentioned last week that Hamas informed the factions involved in those meetings that it had "notified mediators of a goodwill gesture to dissolve the committee."
The head of the committee, who has previously held government positions, and its members are currently residing in Cairo temporarily, as Israel has not approved their entry into Gaza, according to a committee member.
Hamas and other Palestinian factions have held several rounds of talks in Cairo with Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediators in an effort to bridge the gap between the positions of Hamas and Israel regarding the Gaza agreement.
