Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Thursday that the US naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports will exacerbate unrest in the Gulf region and fail to achieve its objectives.

In an official statement, Pezeshkian asserted: "Any attempt to impose a naval blockade or similar restrictions that contravene international law is doomed to failure." He added that such measures "will not only fail to enhance regional security but are, in fact, a source of tension and a disruption to permanent stability in the Gulf."
Background and Military Threats
The United States imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports effective April 13, just days after a regional truce took effect. In response, Iranian armed forces have kept the strategic Strait of Hormuz closed and recently threatened to "respond" if the blockade continues.
Mohsen Rezaei, military advisor to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, renewed warnings on Wednesday without disclosing specific details. Rezaei, the former Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, told state television: "We will not tolerate the naval blockade. If it persists, Iran will retaliate." He further cautioned that a new round of fighting between the US and Iran could result in the sinking of US vessels and the deaths of "soldiers," adding: "If the United States starts a new war, they should expect us to capture a large number of them."
Sectoral Resilience and Naval Developments
Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad dismissed concerns regarding oil supplies and distribution, stating that the US will "reap no results" from its blockade. "Oil sector personnel are working around the clock to ensure seamless service delivery," he told state TV.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the Iranian Navy, Shahram Irani, indicated on Wednesday that Iran plans to deploy newly developed naval weaponry "in the very near future."
