Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will visit Pakistan on Tuesday, describing the trip as an “important opportunity” to discuss ongoing diplomatic efforts following the interim agreement between Iran and the United States.
The announcement comes as technical talks between Iran and the United States began in Switzerland on Monday to discuss mechanisms for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries and the establishment of related technical working groups.
According to Iran’s Student News Agency (ISNA), the Iranian delegation is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and includes experts in political, economic, and legal affairs.
Representatives from the two mediating countries, Pakistan and Qatar, are participating in the talks, while the main Iranian negotiating team, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has returned to Tehran.
Switzerland stated on Monday that conditions are now in place for the immediate commencement of technical negotiations between Tehran and Washington following the conclusion of the first round of talks aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East.
In a statement, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said the Swiss mediator welcomed the constructive progress achieved during intensive diplomatic negotiations held overnight on June 21–22 in Bürgenstock between the mediators, Iran, and the United States. It added that the agreed roadmap “creates the conditions for the immediate resumption of new technical talks.”
On June 18, U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed remotely a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East that began following a U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.
Trump had also signed the memorandum on June 17 during a visit to France, including provisions related to the Lebanese front.
Under the memorandum, Tehran and Washington committed to conducting negotiations and reaching a final agreement within a period of up to 60 days, with the possibility of an extension upon mutual agreement.
