AMMAN — Dozens of rockets were fired from southern Lebanon towards northern Israel on Thursday in the most serious escalation between the two sides since the Second Lebanon war in 2006, news outlets reported. اضافة اعلان

According to an Israeli journalist, about 100 missiles were launched during the bombardment.

The rockets were fired around 3pm local time and lasted for about half an hour. Most missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome system, according to the Israeli military.

However, at least one rocket fell in the town of Shlomi in northern Israel. One Israeli was lightly injured by shrapnel, while another was injured while on the way to a bomb shelter.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombardment.

In response to the rocket fire, occupation artillery shelled the roads of the Lebanese town of Qulaila.

Incursion and resistanceThe escalation comes a day after a violent incursion by the Israeli police into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in Jerusalem, when occupation forces fired rubber bullets and tear gas at Palestinian worshipers.

The military wing of Hezbollah on Thursday morning issued a statement expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and "resistance factions" and stressed it backs any step they will take in order to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque.

This is a developing story.
