The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Wednesday that an armed attack targeted a security checkpoint in the city of Talkalakh, in western Homs countryside, resulting in deaths and injuries among members of the General Security Directorate.

The attack comes amid growing concerns about the potential spread of clashes in the area and fears of human rights violations or massacres. In response, the General Security has reportedly sent reinforcements in an attempt to contain the escalation.
According to sources from the Syrian Observatory, the assault was triggered by long-standing disputes between the assailants and the General Security administration in Talkalakh. The attackers used light and medium weapons during the operation.
In a related development, gunmen also attacked the Ain Al-Khadra neighborhood, one of the largest neighborhoods in Talkalakh, setting fire to several homes. There were no confirmed reports of casualties from that incident.
