The UAE’s Federal Prosecutor General, Hamad Al Shamsi, has ordered the formation of an investigation team comprising specialized public prosecutors to investigate an incident involving Flydubai Flight FZ1073, which was traveling from Dubai International Airport to Tel Aviv before being diverted and landing safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on Thursday, the investigation follows Flydubai’s announcement that an altercation occurred inside the cockpit during the flight, prompting members of the airline’s crew on board to intervene and secure the aircraft.
The investigation team has begun its work in coordination with the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant authorities.
Al Shamsi instructed the team to take all necessary measures to collect information and evidence, establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, and determine its motives. The investigation will also examine whether the incident was connected to any terrorist activity or objective, or whether it involved any prior planning or direction.
WAM said UAE judicial authorities have jurisdiction to investigate the incident under applicable legislation because the aircraft is registered in the UAE and operates under its flag. Accordingly, UAE law applies to crimes committed on board the aircraft even when they occur outside the country’s territory.
