US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday asked the Iranian delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly to leave the United States immediately after negotiations stalled, according to a US official and a second source familiar with the matter, Axios reported.اضافة اعلان

The US official said the request came after the Iranian delegation’s authorized stay had expired and the UN General Assembly had concluded.

A second source confirmed that the United States had asked the Iranian delegation to leave, but noted that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had already been scheduled to return to Tehran on Monday evening.

On Monday evening, at Rubio’s direction, the US mission to the United Nations informed the Iranian mission that Araghchi’s delegation was required to leave New York immediately, according to the US official.

According to Axios, the Iranian delegation, including Araghchi, headed to the airport several hours later and boarded a flight from New York to Doha at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Araghchi had said that Iranian-Qatari talks were held in New York on Monday to discuss ideas aimed at finding a way forward that would meet Iran’s conditions, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

Araghchi said the discussions focused on ways to “find a way forward to meet Iran’s conditions” and how those conditions could be addressed.

He said the Qatari side would present the outcome of the talks to the United States, after which Washington’s final response would be conveyed to Iran. He expressed hope that the response would be received on Tuesday.

Araghchi said exchanges of messages and communications with Qatari and Pakistani mediators had continued, but had taken on a more serious form “in light of the initiative presented by Iran.”

He also said he would leave New York for Tehran within hours, adding that the Qataris knew how to convey the response as soon as it became available.

US President Donald Trump confirmed that the US negotiating team held indirect talks with Iran on Monday through mediators.

Trump also denied on Truth Social that he had offered Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds, saying that Axios had published a report claiming he had made such an offer, but that “this is not true.”
