A new Reuters/Ipsos poll showed US President Donald Trump’s approval rating falling to 32%, the lowest level of his political career, amid growing dissatisfaction among Republicans with his handling of rising living costs during the unpopular war with Iran.
The four-day poll, which concluded Sunday, found that 73% of Republicans approved of Trump’s job performance, down from 82% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted a week earlier. His overall approval rating stood at 35% in that poll.
Trump returned to the White House in January 2025 after pledging to curb inflation and end foreign wars. His approval rating stood at 47% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in the hours after he was sworn in for his second term.
Only 17% of respondents in the latest poll approved of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, the top issue Americans say will influence how they vote in the November 3 midterm elections, when Republicans will defend their narrow majority in Congress.
Dissatisfaction among Republicans over the issue has increased since Trump launched the war against Iran in February, driving gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher.
For the first time, the number of Republicans who disapprove of Trump’s handling of the cost of living has surpassed those who approve, at 51% compared with 44%.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online and collected responses from 1,277 US adults across the country. The poll had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
