In brief statements, the governorate said the settlers performed Talmudic rituals and prayers in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque to mark what is known as Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

It added that hundreds of settlers had gathered since the early morning near the Mughrabi Gate, ahead of their entry into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Video footage documented settlers performing rituals and Talmudic prayers late Saturday night outside the Al-Aqsa Mosque wall, opposite Bab al-Rahma (Gate of Mercy). The gathering followed calls for people to assemble at the site and perform prayers of repentance, according to Jewish religious claims.
