Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that de-escalation between Russia and Ukraine requires political will, as Ukrainian forces carried out overnight long-range strikes targeting an oil refinery and a major logistics facility in Moscow.

In a post on the social media platform X, Zelenskyy said the strikes had a significant impact and hit one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities, worth billions of dollars and used to support Russia’s war effort.
Zelenskyy also stressed that reducing tensions between the two countries requires political will.
Russian authorities said on Sunday that two people were killed in one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks on the Moscow region. An oil refinery in the Russian capital was also targeted, as Russia entered the final day of voting in parliamentary elections.
Russia and Ukraine have continued to target each other’s energy infrastructure despite U.S. President Donald Trump saying on Monday that the two sides had agreed to halt such attacks.
