Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the Pakistani interior minister’s visit to Tehran will focus on bilateral relations, denying that there are plans to exchange specific messages related to mediation, according to Iranian state television.
The spokesperson also said that the violation of a memorandum of understanding on the pretext of an attack on three vessels was a “pre-planned scenario,” stressing that Tehran’s demands for the full lifting of sanctions and an end to the maritime blockade remain unchanged.
He said the continuation of the maritime blockade constitutes a “clear act of aggression,” adding that there can be no discussion of ending the conflict or normalizing the situation in the region before sanctions are fully lifted and the maritime blockade is ended.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the spokesperson said the agreement with Oman concerning the strait should be viewed by regional stakeholders as a genuine opportunity. He noted that Iran had worked with Muscat for weeks to establish precise arrangements for a safe route for commercial navigation.
He added that the outcomes of the understandings reached with Oman were scheduled to be presented at the Salalah meeting with other countries in the region.
