Iranian media reported Saturday that “several explosions” were heard near Kharg Island, the country’s main oil export terminal, amid escalating military tensions with the United States.

The Fars News Agency said its correspondent reported hearing the explosions, but no smoke was seen. Local outlet SNN (Student News Network), meanwhile, reported that “an Iranian oil tanker was targeted by the United States” near the island.
There was no immediate comment from US or Iranian officials.
After a month of relative calm in the war that began with a US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, military tensions escalated again Sunday, with the two sides exchanging strikes as diplomatic efforts remained stalled.
Iran continues to effectively close the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies, while Washington maintains its blockade of Iranian ports.
