A statement issued by the Israeli minister's office reported that Katz emphasized to Hegseth during an overnight call "Israel's determination to remain in the security zones in Syria, Gaza, and Lebanon to protect Israel's borders and border communities from any threats."
During a new round of talks in Rome that concluded on Wednesday, Lebanon and Israel agreed to finalize the framework for pilot zones and begin implementing them within days, in accordance with a framework agreement between the two parties, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Beirut.
The two countries conducted two days of US-sponsored negotiations in the Italian capital, which the US Embassy in Beirut described as "productive and positive."
The embassy quoted a US official as saying, "We have agreed on the structure and general principles for the pilot zones mechanism, to be finalized and implemented within days."
