Jordan will be affected on Tuesday by a low-pressure system accompanied by a cold air mass, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures. The weather will be cold across most regions and partly cloudy to cloudy, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).
The JMD forecast rainfall starting in the early morning hours in northern parts of the Kingdom, gradually extending to central areas and parts of the eastern regions. The rain may be heavy at times for short periods and accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional hail, which could lead to flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas. During the afternoon hours, light rain is expected in parts of the southwestern regions.
At night, the weather will generally remain cold, with a continued chance of light and scattered rain showers in the western parts of the Kingdom.
The JMD warned of the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas in northern and central regions and parts of the eastern areas, as well as reduced horizontal visibility due to dust stirred up by winds expected to be active during the daytime in desert areas, possibly dropping to zero at times on desert roads. It also warned of reduced visibility due to fog and low clouds touching the ground, especially over mountainous areas, and the risk of slippery roads where rainfall occurs.
As for Wednesday and Thursday, the JMD indicated a gradual rise in temperatures, with weather ranging from cold to mild in most regions, and mild to relatively warm in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Some low clouds are expected on Wednesday, with mostly sunny conditions on Thursday.
According to the JMD, medium- and high-level clouds will cover the Kingdom’s skies on Friday, with mild temperatures in most regions and relatively warm conditions in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
Greater Amman Municipality Declares “Maximum Water Emergency” Starting Tuesday
The Greater Amman Municipality announced the declaration of a “maximum water emergency” starting Tuesday morning, in response to the low-pressure system affecting the Kingdom.
In a statement, the municipality confirmed the readiness of its field teams to handle any reports received by the Tala’ Al-Ali Emergency Operations Room, urging citizens to contact the unified call center numbers (102 and 117180) to report any observations.
The municipality also called on the public to exercise caution by staying away from valleys and low-lying areas, and to avoid disposing of waste randomly, as it can block rainwater drainage lines.
